Owens injures knee, will miss Orange Bowl

It's probably a good thing for Florida State that the football season will end in a couple weeks. At the rate injuries have hit the team lately they are running out of players. That trend continued this week when the the Seminoles lost another player with a serious injury.

Wide receiver Rod Owens tore the ACL in his left knee.

The freshman wideout injured the knee during last Saturday's no-contact practice by the simple act of running a square-in route.

"I tried to go inside and the outside of my knee just popped," Owens said. "I didn't think it was that bad because the swelling wasn't that bad. When they checked it out after I got hurt it wasn't loose when they did the tests. They thought it was just a strain until they got the MRI -- it was a tear."

According to Owens, this the first time he has suffered a major injury.

This past season, the true freshman wideout saw limited action coming off the bench but still managed nine catches for 113 yards and picked up one receiving touchdown.

Surgery has yet to be scheduled. Owens expects to be healty in time for the 2006 season.

Talk about it on the Football Message Board or on the Tribal Council
