Gutierrez rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns while Bomar connected with freshman Juaquin Iglesias for a 21-yard score in the second overtime to propel the Sooners to a 37-30 triumph over Baylor in a Big 12 Conference matchup.
Oklahoma (4-3, 3-1 Big 12 South) was in the Bowl Championship Series title game each of the past two seasons but graduation has left the Sooners with struggling youngsters at key positions, resulting in their atypically slow start.
A redshirt sophomore, Gutierrez was in the lineup to spell star tailback Adrian Peterson, who is hobbled by a sprained ankle, along with backup Kejuan Jones. Gutierrez had TD runs of six and 24 yards in the second quarter to help Oklahoma open a 24-13 lead at the break.
Bears quarterback Shawn Bell led the Bears' rally with a seven-yard score to Shaun Rochon in the third quarter and then a 55-yard touchdown to Dominique Zeigler to make the score 27-25 with 1:17 remaining in regulation.
Bell, who completed 20-of-44 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns, tied the game by darting up the middle for the two-point conversion.
After the teams exchanged field goals in the first overtime, redshirt freshman Bomar found Iglesias streaking down the right sideline for the go-ahead score in the second OT.
Baylor (4-3, 1-3 South) failed to get a first down on its ensuing possession to lose for the third time in its last four games.
