Leggett Still Taking His Time

Lance Leggett of Arlington (Texas) Grace Prep High School left the state of Florida a few years back to focus more on education and to perfect his football skills. Fast forward to the present time, where Leggett is already a full academic qualifier and one of the best wide receiver prospects in the entire nation.

Leggett has wasted no time on the recruiting trail, as he already made four of his five official visits.

Leggett's first visit was to Oklahoma when the Sooners played North Texas. Then he went to Miami and saw a thrilling come-from-behind win for the Hurricanes against the Gators. A week later, he visited Florida and saw the Gators dismantle Florida A&M. His fourth visit was to Purdue when it played Penn State.

"I liked all of them," Leggett said. "All of them have good fan support."

But the Miami-Florida game topped all others.

"That was about the best game I ever saw," Leggett said.

After four official visits, Leggett still does not have a leader or favorite team at this point, but is favoring three schools.

"Florida, Miami and Oklahoma," Leggett said. "I don't really have any favorites. I just want to stay open minded.

"I like the coaches and the players and it is close to home. That is what I like about both Miami and Florida," Leggett said. "Oklahoma just has a good program going right now."

The Bartow, Fla., native still has deep ties in Florida. His entire family is still back in Bartow and could be a strong factor in his final decision.

"I love Florida because I am from there, but it doesn't matter what school I go to," Leggett said.

Through the state semifinals, Leggett had 950 yards receiving and 18 touchdowns.

Leggett's stock as a prospect soared to new heights over the summer after making stops at Florida and Florida State for summer camps. Leggett also camped at TCU and Texas A&M.

"I liked all the camps because you got to meet different people," Leggett said.

In fact, at the Florida camp, he met and talked football with Xavier Carter of Melbourne (Fla.) Palm Bay, capping off what was a great camp experience.

"I loved it because they had a lot of competition there," Leggett said. "Since I play at a private school, I had to show them I could play public school ball."

Rivals.com moved Leggett's rating up from four stars to five, when the new rankings came out in October. He was also moved from the ninth best wide receiver in the nation to No. 4.

Leggett is unsure if he is going to take his fifth official visit, but is pretty sure that he won't make a verbal commit anytime soon.

"I am going to wait until after the football season because I want to play in the All-Star game (U.S. Army East-West game)," Leggett said. "So I don't know what I am going to do."
