Bulldogs Add to 2015 Haul with Georgia Lineman
Trey Derouen announced that he was ready to be a Bulldog over offers from Duke, Illinois and others.Mississippi State has had a big start to the class of 2015 but began to add significant depth to their offensive line with the third blocker of the class on Tuesday night. "We just stayed in contact," Derouen said of the Bulldog coaches. "They sent Mother's and Father's Day cards to my parents. It's just the little things that separated them from the rest."
Derouen has stayed in touch with the offensive line coach John Hevesy and his recruiter, David Turner, since his visit earlier this spring and the two have built a strong bond. He's looking forward to playing for Hevesy for the next four years or so.
"Coach Turner and coach Hevesy have both hit me up pretty hard since my visit," Derouen said. "They both have been in this college thing for a while so they know what they're talking about and both have great personalities."
"Coach Hevesy really likes my footwork," Derouen said. "There's a few things he wants me to work on like my punch coming off the ball, and I am working on that now. He does want me to play guard on the next level so I'll be ready to go."
Another main factor in the commitment from Derouen was the campus and facilities. After visiting back in April and seeing the sights, he was sure that Starkville would be his home.
"My visit up there was great," Derouen said. "They have a beautiful campus. The facilities were pretty awesome. They're up-to-date and make me feel at home. They seemed fit to prepare the team for an SEC Championship."
Now that he's a part of the 2015 class, Derouen is excited to meet the rest of the group. Hearing good things from fellow Georgia-native Kentavious Thomas, Derouen is interested and just how big the class can be.
"This is probably going to be the best class that's ever come through Mississippi State," Derouen said. "I'm excited to be a part of it."
Derouen plans to be on campus at some point this season with at least an official visit trip. He's the 27th member of the Bulldog class of 2015, the second from the state of Georgia, and the third offensive linemen joining tackles Harrison Moon and Tommy Champion.
