Bulldog Blitz Roster Countdown: #33: Dontavian Lee
In the heat of the summer, this is the most depressing of days for SEC football fans. The season is on the horizon but seems so far away for those that eat, sleep and breathe football in the south. With that in mind, Bulldog Blitz wants to make the time spent waiting worth your while as we bring you a countdown of sorts leading all the way up to the big day on August 30 when Mississippi State opens the newly renovated Davis Wade Stadium against in-state foe, Southern Miss.
Over the course of the next two months, Bulldog Blitz counts down the off season with a look at each scholarship player on the roster. We're now 35 days away from the first kick of the 2014 season for MSU and take a look at freshman running back Dontavian Lee.
#33- Fr. Running Back, Dontavian Lee
Lee ended his commitment earlier on in the process committing to the Bulldogs shortly after his junior year of high school. After that, the Forrest County back had a quiet, but huge senior season leading his team to a State Championship with eight-consecutive wins. He rushed for 1,654 yards as a senior averaging 7.8 yards per carry and added 29 catches for 433 yards with a grand total of 21 offensive touchdowns. Lee also showed his versatility on defense with nearly 50 tackles, four fumble recoveries, a forced fumble, sack and a touchdown.
Lee is a big, physical runner at 6'1, 211 and was one of the top running backs in the state a year ago earning a trip to the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Classic with fellow running back signee, Aeris Williams. This season, expect Lee to spend a year learning under the older backs and redshirting while the Bulldogs figure out if the offensive back field is his future.
While he's certainly capable of being a Bulldog running back in the SEC, Lee can also make the seamless move to the defense and play in the secondary or even grow into a linebacker. Time will tell rather or not he stays on offense, but the Bulldogs have another great athlete from the state to play with. Most importantly, Lee is a winner.
Coming Tomorrow: #32 sophomore running back, Ashton Shumpert
