Hoyas in Pro City Kenner League Day 1
July 6, 2014 - Yesterday was the first day of Nike Pro City Kenner League play, leaving Georgetown University's McDonough Arena a hotspot of DMV hoops action. If Saturday is a barometer, this summer is sure to be hot!
Below are excerpts on the play of several Hoyas yesterday. For total submission, see Premium Court.
Paul White, freshman forward, Clydes - Showed his feathery touch from mid-range. Had a nice and one, stop and pop. Started off slow yet picked it up.
Tre Campbell, freshman point guard, Clydes - Played pretty good defense, particularly initially picking up the ball. Has a penchant to find people.
Reggie Cameron, sophomore forward, Symonds - Missed his first couple of shots, but bounced back nicely. Scored on mid-post ups and spot ups.
David Allen, junior guard, Symonds - Scored well on spot up jumper situations. Displayed a willingness to accept ball pressure.
Jabril Trawick, senior guard/forward, Team Takeover - Played with force, per usual. Displayed more wiggle going to the cup.
Mikael Hopkins, senior forward, Team Takeover - Looked physically bigger. Searched for contact and played through it. On both sides of the floor.
Isaac Copeland, freshman forward, Tombs - A long, athletic forward, Copeland runs the floor well. Also is not adverse to defending inside and out.
L.J. Peak - Showed an ability to get to the rim and finish, including with his left hand. On one play went easily around Trawick.
Paul Jorgensen, freshman George Washington guard, Clydes - A 6'2", 175 pound backcourt guy, Jorgensen drives aggressively. Also pulled up from mid-range. Didn't show a point guard mentality.
The Navy Squadron - A pair of Naval Academy guards jetted around the court yesterday, helping Higher Level to a win over Clydes; junior point guard Tilman Dunbar and sophomore guard Zach Fong.
Fong, 5'11", 152 pounds , hit a number of three pointers, including in transition. Tilman, 5'10", 155 pounds, ran the show and penetrated well. Both were unfazed by the competition and effective.
Josh Hart, sophomore Villanova guard/forward, Team Takeover - Hart picked up where he left off for the Wildcats last season, rebounding, scoring around the tin, defending and scrapping. Also hit a shot from distance, evidencing work in that regard.
