Warren Central Standout Pledges to the Bulldogs for 2015
Chris Stamps.Mississippi State's successful junior day from this past weekend netted two commitments before the prospects could even leave campus. Two days later, a third prospect jumped on board in Warren Central corner
"I just made my decision. It's pretty simple, it's home," Stamps said of his commitment to MSU. "It's an honor to be able to play in the SEC and for that coaching staff at MSU. They're adding on the stadium with more seats and a new jumbotron so everything is exciting right now up there. It's where I want to be and I couldn't be happier."
The Bulldog coaches spent lots of time evaluating Stamps and wanted to be one of the first teams on him in 2015. The bonds that they built lately sent his decision over the top and once an offer was given at junior day last weekend, it was a no-brainer for the talented defender.
"They told me that they felt like I was one of the best corners in 2015 and one of the best players in the state," Stamps said. "I was waiting on an offer from MSU and I've always liked them. This past season to see those guys play the way they did on defense was something that I couldn't pass up to be a part of."
Running backs coach Greg Knox and cornerbacks coach Deshea Townsend have spent the better part of a month recruiting Stamps hard and he sees them as part of his own family.
"They're like fathers to me now," Stamps said. "They told me that they're going to push me and get the best out of me as a player and a person. My parents felt like they're real big on education and graduating players. They've also got several players into the NFL. Those are the two most important things to me."
Now that Stamps is officially on board with MSU, he's already working on some of the best players in a very deep class in Mississippi. He said that getting the best players in the state this year could put the Bulldogs on the national scene.
"I'm absolutely turning to recruiting now," Stamps said. "I'm trying to bring Jamal Peters and Malik Dear on board now. Those two need to be Bulldogs. 2015 class is basically loaded with playmakers all around. Having them all at MSU will be a puzzle piece that completes the big picture for a National Championship.
Stamps became the eighth member of the class of 2015 and the third in the last three days. He's also the sixth member of the class from the state of Mississippi as the Bulldogs try to put together a memorable group.
