Tookie Brown commits to Rick Ray for the 2015 class
Tookie Brown.Mississippi State basketball has experienced a major upgrade from a year ago and the team got even better on Sunday afternoon when Rick Ray and his coaches got a phone call from 2015 point guard
"I talked to them at 2 o'clock and told the coaches that I was ready to commit," the talented Brown said. "They were excited and told me that I made their day."
In the end, the relationship that the junior built with the staff at MSU was too strong for him to go anywhere else. The hard work that Ray and his coaches put on the recruiting trail was all that Brown needed to see to know his decision was the right one.
"Coach Ray and coach (Wes) Flannigan have been here since day one," Brown said. "They've been here a lot looking at me and recruiting me hard and they've been looking after me. My relationship with coach Ray has been big, we have a bond."
For Brown, the philosophy that Ray has implemented is a big reason why he wanted to be a Bulldog.
"He likes to run," Brown said of Ray's scheme. "He's a hard-working coach and he lets you play your game. I'm a scorer and I like to get my teammates involved so I think that's the best fit for me."
The decision by the playmaking point guard went much further than just his relationship with the coaches, however. He said that Starkville and MSU has a lot to offer.
"I really like the facilities and tempo that the team plays with. I really like the whole team. Academic wise, they seem like they can really get you to where you want to be. That's the most important thing."
Brown is just popping up on radars around the country garnering interest from Virginia, Miami, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Clemson. He is the third member of the 2015 class joining shooting guard Dante Scott and power forward Joseph Struggs.
