Florida 2015 Defender Picks the Bulldogs

Mississippi State continued to keep the positive momentum going for the 2015 class when they picked up a commitment from Trinity Catholic (Ocala, Fla.) linebacker Darrien McNair.

"I just felt like this is what I needed to do," McNair said about his commitment. "I really liked the coaches and the facilities and the enthusiasm the crowd and the players had when I came up there for the game."

McNair was sold on MSU when he saw their game against Alabama last month. The crowd was a big deal to him, but seeing a defense that he could be a part of compete against the best was all he needed.

"When I saw MSU, I saw a team that was going to come out there and fight," McNair said. "They knew what they could do. The commentators and everyone else around the country called them the underdogs and gave them no chance. They came out and fought the number one team in college football. The defense was relentless."

While he's planning on playing defense on the next level, McNair is being recruited by the tight end's coach, Scott Sallach. Sallach saw a steal in McNair and offered him a scholarship.

"Coach Sallach said that he liked how aggressive I was and him and coach Mullen saw my film and offered," McNair said. "They saw how versatile I was in my film. I used to play safety and now I'm a linebacker. First game of the season I had to play corner because one of our players got hurt. I played every position well. They liked that."

McNair is completely under the radar at the moment but has had a couple of BCS schools show him interest early.

"The only other schools has been Louisville and North Carolina State. They've both been after me. But,to tell you the truth, this is the best decision for me. When I make my mind up I'm done. I'm a man of my word."

Now that McNair is on board he's taking a look at the class of 2015 that is already building into a strong one for the Bulldogs. He couldn't be happier to be a part of it.

"It excites me because that means that we've got even better players coming in," McNair said of the juniors committed. In football you either step up or back down. MSU is moving up. Hail State doesn't back down. Not this class."

Sallach will be down to see the talented defender in the spring and the newest commit expects to be back in Starkville during the summer.

McNair is the Bulldogs' sixth commitment of the 2015 class and the second linebacker, joining four-star Timothy Washington.
