Oak Grove's star junior receiver becomes a Bulldog

With positive momentum still moving in Mississippi State's favor, the Bulldogs pulled in another big 2015 commitment on Sunday night as Oak Grove athlete Cameron Myers decided to be a Bulldog right before MSU's 2014 bowl destination was officially announced.

"They showed the most attention to me," Myers said of the his decision. "The love that they've shown to me throughout the process was a big deal to me. I kind of wanted to wait and commit after my junior season and we won the State Championship the other night so I decided this would be a good time."

Myers is just two days removed from every high school players dream as he and the Oak Grove Warriors reeled in a State Championship in the highest classification in Mississippi. Myers was elated at the opportunity to hold the trophy.

"It was crazy. Everything we've worked for this summer and this spring finally paid off," Myers said of his junior year. "It was a long trip and we accomplished it with the chance to hold the gold trophy."

Myers helped his team to a State Championship playing, where he said, was not his natural position. The junior said he'd much rather be calling the plays.

"I was playing out of position a little bit," Myers said. "I wasn't too serious about receiver and cornerback. I'm just excited about getting the chance to get back to my natural position next season. Coach Mullen wants me to be quarterback in college."

Safeties' coach Tony Hughes has worked hard to get Myers on the boat and the coach's fatherly input in Myers' life was too much for anyone else to overcome.

"He's kind of like a dad to me," Myers said of Hughes. "He's been a close friend to my dad and my family for a long time. I just can't wait to get down there and play for him. He's awesome."

Myers has already had the chance to see what it will be like playing at MSU as he made it to campus to watch the Bulldogs take on the Crimson Tide of Alabama. It made him fall in love with MSU more than ever.
"It was a crazy atmosphere. It was live from start to finish," Myers said of MSU and UA. "That's the type of atmosphere that I want to play in. I've always dreamed of that and now I'll get the chance to. I'm excited about the future."
