Complete 2012/13 Razorback Basketball Roster

With finals out of the way, Arkansas returns to the hardwood tonight to take on Alcorn State in Bud Walton Arena after falling at No. 3 Michigan one week ago.

Sophomore guard B.J. Young is averaging 18 points per game

The Hogs lost that one 80-67 as the Wolverines pulled away at the end. With six minutes to play, it was a one-point game.

"Last time out we played against a Michigan team that was very, very good, and I thought we had some moments where we really put ourselves in a position to have a chance to be in the ballgame in the end," Razorback head coach Mike Anderson said on Thursday. "We just didn't do the finishing part. Rebounding the basketball. I felt like they kind of pushed us around," he said. "In the second half, Michigan was shooting almost 38 percent, 37 percent from the field, and this is a team that shoots over 50 percent."

The Hogs had a revamped week of practice coming out of finals, and sometimes they were not able to get all the players on the court for practice, but Anderson said they always scheduled practice to get the most players there. That includes Fred Gulley, who after transferring from Oklahoma State one year ago will be eligible to play today.

"Now he'll have an opportunity to play," Anderson said. "Hopefully with all the grades posted he'll have an opportunity to play on Saturday. Fred will give us another guy. A guard. Depth-wise, it'll be good for our team. An experienced guy that's played on this level before."

The Razorbacks should win the next five games against Alcorn State, Robert Morris, Alabama A&M, Northwestern State and Delaware State before starting conference play at Texas A&M on Jan. 9.

"We need a lot of guys to step up," UA junior guard Mardracus Wade said. "You can see last gameKikko Haydar stepped up. So we need guys like that to come off the bench and help us any way they can."

The Hogs are coming off what is arguably the toughest non-conference schedule effort, with a string of games that included Arizona State, Wisconsin, Syracuse, Oklahoma and Michigan. To boot, only one of those games was at Bud Walton Arena. The young Razorbacks came away just 1-4 from that stretch but learned a lot about themselves and really played better each week.

"I feel like we'll be more prepared as a team because of how tough our schedule was in the beginning," UA true freshman forward Jacorey Williams said. "The confidence is still up. We know it's early in the season. We're not really panicking right now."

Alcorn State is 2-6 this season under second year head coach Luther Riley. They are led by junior guard Anthony Evans (13.1 ppg) and sophomore guard LeAntwan Luckett (13.0 ppg).
