Wins title, decision looms
Taylor Driggers, defensive lineman from Brantley High School in Ala., helped his team capture the Class 1A state championship with a 33-0 win against defending champions Marion County High School. Brantley finished the season in dominating fashion.
"It feels great," said Driggers. "This is what the hard work is for. I had it in the back of my mind we could have 10 shutouts going into the game. This matters a tad bit more.
"It's great keeping the shutout to a team who has scored 700 points this year. They were driving at the end, but it didn't matter whether or not they scored. I did want the shutout though, and we got it. We came in prepared. We knew what they were running, and we hit them in the mouth."
Driggers finished the game with eight tackles and two tackles for loss. He had several quarterback pressures. He entered the game with 63 tackles and 12 sacks for the year.
Driggers is closing in on making his college decision. Army, Georgia State, Memphis and Troy have offered scholarships. He has trimmed the list to a couple of schools.
"Army is Army," he said. "It's a great academic school. There are so many opportunities after football. It's a prestigious offer."
"Troy is close to home. They play some really good football there. The Sun Belt is on the rise. It's just a good school close to home."
