Terps have three-star DE's attention
Jaylen Miller has held double-digit offers from programs such as LSU, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, N.C. State, North Carolina and Maryland since before his senior season started, but for the last few months he's put his recruiting on the backburner. The 6-foot-3, 265-pounder from Gaffney High in South Carolina said he preferred to concentrate on his current team rather than his future one - at least until the season ended.Three-star defensive end
"Right now my team is in the second round of the playoffs, and my main job right now is to help us win a championship," said Miller, who has an astounding 22 sacks on the season. "But as soon as it ends I'm definitely getting back into recruiting."
Even so, Miller has been in touch with several college coaches. He said assistants from Wake Forest, N.C. State, Georgia Tech, Duke, Marshall and North Carolina had been pursuing him the hardest, and that Maryland just recently turned up the heat.
"The newest school to come in was Maryland; Coach [Andre] Powell started talking to me just recently," Miller said. "When I talked to him he thought I was going to LSU, but I told him I was still wide open [with recruiting]. After I [told Powell that], he said he definitely wanted to get me up for a visit. I think he's even coming down to my school to watch me play."
The two didn't talk long, but it was enough to pique Miller's interest. He has never been to College Park before but said he'd "definitely" like to come up after his season ends.
"Basically Coach Powell was telling me about the coaching staff, the facilities and everything Maryland has to offer," Miller said. "He didn't get into too much detail, but the school sounds like a place I'd be interested in checking out."
So far the only schools Miller has seen are Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and North Carolina. But he insisted none of them stand out just yet.
"I mean, I liked all those schools, but I don't want to put one over the other," Miller said. "I still want to see a few more places, take some officials and then I'll start [narrowing down] my list. I'm keeping my options open."
