Simon Reaches Commitment Decision
Will Latu, the Sooners now have a pair of Gibbs products.People love to talk about the 'Cali pipeline' that Oklahoma is building in Southern California but before long Sooner fans may have to start looking over St. Petersburg (Fla.) Gibbs' roster each and every year. That's because, including the Sunday decision of former Gladiator offensive lineman
On Wednesday morning at a National Signing Day ceremony at Gibbs' high school he was joined by current Gladiators three-star defensive back Gary Simon who signed and faxed in his official letter of intent to Oklahoma.
"Yes, I committed to Oklahoma," Simon said.
The 6-foot-1, 177-pound prospect picked up early offers from the likes of South Florida, Nebraska, Ohio State, Miami, Arkansas, and Ole Miss among many others before the Sooners chose to get seriously involved in late December. Originally the charge was led by then Sooner defensive coordinator Brent Venables but even before he departed the reins were handed over to Mike Stoops who ventured to St. Petersburg for an in-home visit with head coach Bob Stoops.
During the visit the Sooners were able to set up his official visit for Jan. 22 where he was hosted by Sooner player-recruiter ace Tony Jefferson.
"It went well, I got to play some games with his kids and eat and watch the playoffs we watched the Patriots play the Ravens. And we got to just hang out with a couple of guys on the team," Simon said.
"Tony, he is just real funny, it was a good time."
Simon chose the Sooners over Arkansas and Iowa State among many other suitors.
SoonerScoop.com will have more with Simon later today.
