More juniors pledge to attend junior day

EagleAction.com has been keeping you up to date on news related to the Boston College junior day on January 28 and we've learned that many more prospects have pledged to attend.

We won't re-hash all of the other names we have mentioned in previous stories, but you can find an exhaustive list with all the names we're aware of to this point on the premium message board.

Scepaniak will visit

Add Caleb Scepaniak to the list of quarterbacks that will be visiting for the junior day.

That's big news as Scepaniak, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound pro-style quarterback from Binghamton (N.Y.) Seton Catholic Central, is widely regarded as one of the Northeast's top signal callers.

If BC offered the Eagles would likely firmly establish themselves at the top of his list. He has early offers from Buffalo, Cornell, Fordham and Wagner. BC can probably afford to be picky with new offers to quarterbacks from here on out, just because they look to be in good shape with some other guys that are big-time prospects.

More linemen to attend

It continues to look as though offensive linemen may dominate the event as even more of the big guys are pledging to attend.

Add Tate Hernly to the list. The 6-foot-3, 243-pound lineman from Fort Myers (Fla.) may not have ideal size but he's highly regarded as a prospect.

Keeping it down south, Norcross (Ga.) Greater Atlanta Christian lineman Andrew Bartolomei can play on either side of the ball and he will make the trip north as well.

Chuddy Nwachukwu, of Dighton Rehoboth Regional, won't have to travel nearly as far. The 6-foot-6, 310-pound lineman has ideal size but still has something to prove before he picks up an offer.

In perhaps one of the biggest pieces of news, EagleAction.com recently learned that John Montelus will be at the event. We can't underestimate the importance of that, as Montelus is tackling the process early and the Eagles appear to be in great shape. He's clearly one of BC's top prospects in 2013.

Jon Baker of Millis, Calvin Vail of Lowell, Matthew Comerford of Reading Memorial, Tevin Montgomery of Tabor Academy and Maurice Hurst of Xaverian, are all in-state offensive and/or defensive linemen that will make the short trek to Chestnut Hill as well.

Those guys are a bit off the radar for now but we're hearing there's some interest.

Add DBs to the list

Columbus (Ohio) Bishop Hartley cornerback Alonzo Saxton has an early offer from Toledo and the 5-foot-10, 165-pound corner will make the long drive this weekend. Last year he was one of the top performers at the Cleveland Under Armour Combine. He's actually only a sophomore and has huge potential.

Speaking of talented defensive backs, athlete Rashad Kinlaw of Galloway (N.J.) Absegami already has an offer from Rutgers and he's making the trip, too.

Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga athlete Devin Butler is a quality strong safety prospect waiting for his first offer and the Eagles are glad he'll be attending.

Big-time linebacker to check out BC

BC's early efforts in Virginia may be paying off. The Eagles are all over the state and after some big-time talent, and now Kettle Run elite athlete Michael Parker is planning to attend. Parker may be one of the Top 5 or 10 prospects in the state and he's going to have a huge offer list before it's all said and done. UVa, Virginia Tech and Tennessee have already offered.

Don't forget the specialists

The casual fan may underestimate the importance of specialists and some coaches do, too.

Boston College will host at least three recruits primarily known for their play on special teams.

Kickers Steven O'Block and Mark Zavrl, of Carmel Catholic in Illinois and Andover respectively, will both be attending, as will long snapper Nick Walter from Pickerington Central (Ohio).
