Neuheisel on Wednesday's practice
Rick Neuheisel, the assistant coaches and the players. They like how they are practicing. Is this the week that the Bruins transfer weekday work to Saturday or is it another week where the Bruin fan base is Charlie Brown and they watch their beloved it team whiff as Lucy pulls the ball out from underneath them?It was unanimous from UCLA head coach
Only Saturday holds the answer to that question. It was short and sweet with Neuheisel and the media after Wednesday's practice.
Neuheisel: "It was another great practice. Where we got a lot done. Coaching our tails off. Playing hard. People angry. People fighting. It's football. It warms your heart if you are into that sort of thing. I am looking forward to a spirited game on Saturday. We have to stand up and be held accountable and we're going to do just thatWe are going to play hard and play well on Saturday."
What are you looking for from Richard Brehaut in Corvallis?
Neuheisel: "As is always the case at quarterback, we need consistency. We make lots of plays that have been on Sports Center and things like that. We just don't make them as consistently as the good teams do and that's what we have to do. We have to.
"I think we are sixth in the conference in total offense and yet, we are 11 on third down. We have to stay on the field. If you are sixth in total offense and if you get more plays, we can climb those charts pretty quickly.
"Our average yard per attempt as an offense is pretty high. So we just have to do the things and do them well on a more regular and consistent basis. That is what quarterbacking is."
You talked about (Brehaut) taking more of a leadership role. Have you seen any of that this week?
Neuheisel: "I want them concentrating on doing the little things right. In terms of the position and as he does that his confidence will soar and the team will look to him more and then that leadership piece will fall in naturally."
Can you talk a little about Malcolm Jones and what his role with the team is this year?
Neuheisel: "Malcolm right now is our third tailback. Given the situation thus far in game, he has not gotten as many carries as we would have liked him to have received, but we still have nothing but high regard from Malcolm and his talent and think he can be a huge addition to this team, not only this year, but in the future."
Could Malcolm redshirt?
Neuheisel: "He has already played. We're early in the season. We have only finished 25 percent, so there are lots of chances and Malcolm will turn into a very valuable guy here, very shortly."
