Severin's decision could come soon

Canaan Severin could make his decision within weeks - and it's been a long, drawn-out process for the Worcester (Mass.) Worcester Academy athlete so he's about ready to announce his commitment.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound prospect who's being recruited as a wide receiver by Boston College said he will probably finalize his decision by the end of September.

The Eagles are definitely making a strong final push and Severin said he talked with some coaches on Tuesday.

"They said they scrimmage (Wednesday), it's their last scrimmage, and they really want me as well so they were saying that," Severin said. "I talked to the recruiting coordinator, coach (Mike) Siravo, I talked to coach (Sean) Devine and I talked to coach (Ryan) Day so that was good.

"I feel like all the schools are trying to make their final pitch. I just have to figure out what else I need to see. They've shown me everything."

Penn State is a strong competitor in his recruitment and Severin, a four-star recruit who's the top-rated prospect in the Massachusetts state rankings by Rivals.com, said he's probably going to attend the Nittany Lions' matchup against Alabama.

That's one of the biggest games early in the college football season and Severin said he's excited about that trip to State College.

"Penn State is talking to me about coming to the game against Alabama," Severin said. "That should be a good one so I think I'm going to head down to that one."

Boston College and Penn State are two of the favorites for Severin, rated as the ninth-best athlete and No. 151 in the 2012 class by Rivals.com, but those aren't the only two programs involved.

Severin said Virginia is definitely still in the mix and Connecticut and Iowa are still being considered. For the next few days, Severin is focused on the opening week of practice for his high school and that means some tiring two-a-day workouts.

"It's been going good," Severin said. "We have five straight two-a-days so it's tiring but we have a lot of good players and a lot of returning players. We brought in a linebacker from Ohio and a linebacker from Pennsylvania so that is good."
