Practice update: Day One
Dana Holgorsen Friday afternoon and the atmosphere was up-tempo.West Virginia opened the first practice under Head Coach
Music played over the loud speakers similar to the camp settings over the summer and although most of the allotted time to the media was spent stretching and warming up there were some looks at positional drills.
Work was dedicated to both PAT and punt drills, with Tyler Bitancurt leading the way at kicker and Corey Smith at punter.
The running backs were practicing ball security drills, with Running Backs Coach Robert Gillespie showing his intensity. Freshman Andrew Buie looked to be a solid 190-pounds and solid during drills. This should be every bit the battle it was anticipated to be.
Ryan Clarke reported he had lost 10-pounds during the summer and it was noticeable as the junior looked explosive during work with the running backs.
At quarterback West Virginia worked with Geno Smith and Paul Millard and the two completed some positional drills before moving into some passes with the wide receiver units.
Offensive linemen spent the majority of drills working on technique with Bill Bedenbaugh, and all of the freshmen are big bodied options. The unit was split up into two groups, each working on different drills before moving on to the next group.
Tavon Austin, JD Woods, and Devon Brown worked on fielding punts.
It appears that everyone expected was in attendance at practice, including Jorge Wright who worked with the defensive line.
WVSports.com will have continued coverage of the fall camp, including comments from Holgorsen later this evening.
