Kentucky's Miller makes U.S. World University team

Kentucky senior Darius Miller is among 12 players selected for the U.S. basketball team that will compete in the World University Games this month in China.

Miller, a 6-foot-7 forward, has been participating in tryouts for the past week at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

"It's an honor to be able to do what I love, while representing my country and my university," Miller said in a release. "I'm looking forward to the World University Games and am excited about experiencing the Chinese culture."

Twenty-one players began the tryout process, and there was an initial cut to 14 earlier this week.

Other players (with colleges) to make the 12-man roster: Tim Abromaitis (Notre Dame), Marcus Denmon (Missouri), Ashton Gibbs (Pittsburgh), Draymond Green (Michigan State), JaMychal Green (Alabama), Scoop Jardine (Syracuse), John Jenkins (Vanderbilt), Orlando Johnson (UC Santa Barbara), Greg Mangano (Yale), Trevor Mbakwe (Minnesota) and Ray McCallum (Detroit Mercy).

Miller, a native of Maysville, Ky., has experience with USA Basketball as a member of the national team that went 9-0 and won a gold medal at the 2009 FIBA Under-19 World Championship in New Zealand.

The University Games team continues training camp through Sunday in Colorado, and the team will depart for China on Aug. 8.

Team USA will play an exhibition game against New Century, a Chinese professional team, in Huizho, China, on Aug. 11, before opening World University Games play on Aug. 13.

Miller averaged 10.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for UK last season.
