Ducksworth still favoring MSU
Lelland Ducksworth has made his camp rounds in the Magnolia State and visited Mississippi State and Ole Miss. This past weekend, the 6-foot-2 and 220-pound Ducksworth took his talents to the Sunshine State and participated in the Florida State camp session.Over the past few weeks, North Forrest (Miss.) High School's
"It was good and I went there with my head coach and an assistant coach," said Ducksworth, who had 69 tackles with two sacks and three fumble recoveries last year. "It was pretty nice there and their coaches are pretty friendly. I got to talk with their head coach Jimbo Fisher and an assistant coach Rick Trickett. Coach Trickett used to coach at Mississippi State and he knew our head coach Matt Caldwell. And Coach Trickett is a funny guy."
Starting at linebacker and running back last year, Ducksworth noted that the FSU coaches worked him out at a couple of positions.
"They said I did pretty good and I worked at linebacker and running back," said Ducksworth, who had 537 rushing yards and two scores last year. "They didn't offer me and said they were not sure what position I would play just yet."
Ducksworth said he has more trips in the future but that his visits may be limited the rest of the summer.
"I am going to Miami on Saturday and then I will play the rest of the summer by ear," said Ducksworth. "It costs money to go to these places so me and my mom just have to see and I thank her a whole lot in that I can go to these camps. I just have to see what else I can do this summer. I do know I plan to make it back for Mississippi State's Big Dawg Camp and I plan to bring my folks with me on that visit."
Ducksworth currently owns offers from MSU, Ole Miss, Louisiana-Lafayette and Louisiana Tech. Since he received his MSU offer last month, the Bulldogs have been atop of Ducksworth's favorites list and that has remained unchanged.
"Mississippi State is still my leader," said Ducksworth. "I have been looking at other schools but I've been on Mississippi State for awhile now and they were on me first. If Florida State were to offer me, it would make it a tougher decision. But I think I would still be sticking with Mississippi State and they would still be on top and they are closer to home."
And concerning that decision, the "plans for now", said Ducksworth, is to make his college choice by the end of the summer.
"I haven't been thinking about it all that much lately," said Ducksworth. "But my plans for now are to really start thinking about it next month and think about making my decision by the end of July. If I am not sure by then, well, I could wait a little bit longer. But I really don't want to drag it out and I hope to know by the end of the summer."
