Updating Justin Cox
Justin Cox displayed his speed early and often on the gridiron. These days the 2011 Mississippi State signee is doing the same in track. In 2010, West Point's
"I've just been working out a lot, focused on school and running track right now," said the 6-foot-1 and 180-pound Cox. "I am running the 100 meters, doing the triple jump and also running the 4 x 1 and 4 x 2 relays. I've won all of my 100 meter races so far and my best time was a 10.7."
As a prep senior, Cox posted solid numbers on the offensive side of the ball and led the Green Wave to the Class 5A state title. He rushed for 1,416 yards and 16 touchdowns and he also threw for 1,030 yards and nine touchdowns.
But at the next level, Cox is already working on his transition to cornerback in the Bulldogs' secondary.
"I am just staying in shape and getting stronger, and those are the main things I am working on," said Cox. "I am 180 pounds right now but I want to add about 10 more pounds before I get to Mississippi State.
"They are still talking about me playing cornerback. So I am just working on my footwork after school everyday and working out with our coaches. I am doing a lot if individual drills to help that process, too. I really think it's going to be a good thing just focusing on one position in college."
Cox has also made major strides in the classroom and has nearly reached academic qualifications.
"I just need to maintain the grades I have now and I will be good to go," said Cox. "I made my needed score on the ACT so I just need to finish out this year with good grades and that won't be a problem.
"And now I am getting so ready for those summer workouts and we will see how that goes. I just want to try to compete for a spot and come to work hard every day this summer."
