Top LB prospect talks AU visit

Auburn has played host to some of the top targets in the nation and southeast over the last couple of weeks, and this past weekend the Tigers had the opportunity to host one of their top linebacker prospects.

Durham (N.C.) Hillside junior Jamal Marcus made his first trip to Auburn last Thursday, staying through Saturday, and left with the Tigers among his favorites.

"It was great down there. I got to talk to all the coaches, it was a great time," Marcus said. "Auburn had a lot of good stuff I wanted to see. They had a family atmosphere I wanted to see, it was cool."

The 6-foot-2, 219-pound defensive end/linebacker got the see an Auburn practice, meet with current players, and spend time with the Auburn coaching staff.

Marcus said the players gave him a, "family vibe", and enjoyed talking to them. He also witnessed a spring practice and liked what he saw, especially from the linebackers.

"They looked good out there, I was impressed with everything I saw," Marcus said. The linebackers looked really good, really athletic. I got see what kind of defense they run and everything."

Marcus spent time with the Tigers' staff, including lead recruiter, Auburn safeties coach Tommy Thigpen, who Marcus said was a, "real good person, cool dude."

In addition to Thigpen, Marcus also spent a few minutes with head coach Gene Chizik.

"He's ready to win another national championship, he's very dedicated," Marcus said.

Holding over 15 offers now, Marcus is in no rush to make a decision, but does know that Auburn will be among his top contenders throughout the recruiting process.

"I'm kind of undecided right now, but Auburn is still real high," Marcus said. "They are close to the top."

Marcus said he plans a visit to Clemson in May, and likely will not have a final decision anytime soon.
