CMU vs. Miami (OH) Preview
Central Michigan still has a sour taste in their mouth, that's for sure. The last time the Chippewas graced their home field of Kelly/Shorts Stadium they played uninspired and were consequently non-competitive in a 31-17 loss to Ball State. CMU head coach Dan Enos has turned the page and a new six game season will be starting for the Chippewas after a 2-4 start.
"Yeah, we have we kind have said that we got a six game season starting right now and are goal is 1-0," said Enos. "And that's how were treating it. Like an opener and we have to win this game and it's very, very important for a lot of reasons, but it's a MAC game and we didn't like way we left it the last time we were here. So the guys have got a lot of pride and were going to play real hard Saturday."
Enter Miami (OH). The Redhawks come into tomorrow's game at 3-3 overall with their three losses being to Florida, Missouri and Cincinnati respectively. They have defeated both of their MAC opponents (Eastern Michigan & Kent State) to start 2-0 in MAC play and they lead the MAC in turnover margin. But what makes the Redhawks 3-3 start even more puzzling is the fact that outside of turnovers margin, they are just about average in the MAC in everything else.
They rank #10 in the MAC in scoring offense (19 PPG) and #10 in scoring defense as well (30.2 PPG). Quarterback Zac Dysert has been a steady performer averaging 203 passing yards per game and a completion percentage of 66%, but he has thrown more interceptions (6) than touchdowns (5). And he has had to do most of the heavy lifting for the Redhawk offense as they are statistically the worst rushing offense in the MAC with under 70 yards per game.
Looking at the stats, Miami (OH) appears to be an average MAC team who has capitalized on a ton of opponent turnovers. If CMU is truly motivated coming off their two straight losses, the Chippewas should send the Homecoming fans home with stories about another CMU victory.
