Har-Ber defeats Cabot 28-10

#1 ranked Springdale Har-Ber picked up yet another victory over Class 7A foe #7 ranked Cabot on Friday night by the score of 28-10. This would mark the fourth time in a row the Wildcats have outscored the Panthers.

The Wildcats would score on their opening possession at the 8:11 mark in the first quarter when quarterback Ryan Luther connected with receiver Evan Johnson from 21 yards out after an 11 play, 75 yard drive.

The Panthers would come out with their wishbone attack, and have success moving the ball down the field, but once inside of the Wildcat red zone, their drive would stall. Cabot would have to settle for a 27 yard field goal, bringing the score to 7-3 in favor of Har-Ber at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter would host a few more fireworks as the Har-Ber offense would find its rhythm starting at the 10:10 mark when Luther would connect with Brett Stith from 38 yards out, then again with 1:25 remaining in the half as Luther would keep for the 12 yard scoring run. Cabot would score with 4:46 to play in the half on a 3 yard keeper by quarterback Zach Craig.

The Panthers would fumble the ball over to the Wildcats in their own territory with 0:03 remaining in the half, but the Wildcats were content with the score, and took a knee to take the game to halftime.

Both teams would swap multiple turnovers and penalties in the second half, and both defenses would step up to nearly keep the third quarter scoreless until Luther connected with Jeremy Vongvone from 17 yards out on the final play of the quarter.

Cabot looked as if they would score one final time in the fourth quarter after Mason James scampered down the home sideline for 60 yards, but a block in the back penalty would bring the ball back. Har-Ber's defense would step up and hold on a 4th and 5, only allowing James three of the five yards needed for a first down.

Cabot's defense would hold Har-Ber to a three-and-out, and force the punt then would try one more desperation drive for a score. A rare pass would be picked off and returned 22 yards by Ryan Miller. Har-Ber would then run the remaining 1:09 out, and take home the 28-10 victory.

Har-Ber head coach Chris Wood gave his thoughts following the game.

"Cabot challenged our defense tonight, and we played a little bit sloppy at times, but to come to Cabot and pick up a really good win against a really good team is good." said Wood. "They will be in the thick of things come Thanksgiving, so we are happy to get the win tonight. They have a really well coached team, and I have so much respect for them, this town, and this community. They play football how it should be played."

Coach Wood also spoke about his game plan of running the ball behind the Natural State's top prospect, Brey Cook.

"Brey is one of the best tackles in the country and he had a good night tonight." said Wood. "There were a few times tonight their ends were able to get him, but overall he is your horse up front, and you always have to go behind your horse."

ArkansasVarsity.com Player of the Game: Har-Ber quarterback Ryan Luther. Luther accounted for all of the Wildcats touchdowns, passing for three from 21, 37 and 17 yards and rushing for a 13 yard touchdown. He would finish the night 14 of 16 passing with 191 yards, one incompletion, and one interception, as well as 6 carries for 38 yards.
