LeFevour, Brown and Zombo make NFL rosters
Although it didn't happen without a few hiccups, three former Central Michigan stars have all made NFL rosters after their impressive CMU careers ended in 2009.
Wide receiver Antonio Brown, a sixth round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, officially made the Steelers roster. He is one of six wide receivers to make the roster and is a candidate to return both punts and kicks in Pittsburgh's opening game on Sunday.
Defensive end Frank Zombo was signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent shortly after the draft, and was subsequently converted to a linebacker. Against some tremendous odds, Zombo impressed Packer personnel enough to make the 53 man roster, although he recently had to change his number from #47 to #58. Zombo put together an impressive preseason in Green Bay that saw him tally 15 tackles and 2 sacks.
And finally, former CMU quarterback Dan LeFevour has found a place on an NFL roster. Selected by his hometown Chicago Bears in the sixth round of the draft, LeFevour was waived this past Saturday due to the Bears only wanting three QB's. Shortly after he was released, the Cincinnati Bengals claimed him and then released journeyman J.T. O'Sullivan. LeFevour will be the #3 quarterback behind starter Carson Palmer and his brother/backup Jordan Palmer. After wearing #15 with the Bears, LeFevour will switch to #8 with the Bengals.
In other news, former CMU tight end Tory Humphrey was recently released by the New Orleans Saints as they made room for a waiver wire addition. Former CMU guard Eric Ghiaciuc was also relased by the New England Patriots and is currently a free agent.
Corner Josh Gordy was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars and wide receiver Bryan Anderson was released by the New England Patriots. As of now, neither has caught on with another NFL team.
LeFevour, Brown and Zombo join fellow Chippewas Joe Staley (49ers) and Cullen Jenkins (Packers) as current Chippewas in the NFL.
