Anthony Davis makes the call for Kentucky

No matter how you slice it, John Calipari and his staff at Kentucky are on one of the most ridiculous recruiting rolls of all time. After landing phenomenal classes in 2009 and 2010, they are more than on their way to another great group in 2011. That group grew by one on Friday night when several sources confirmed that Anthony Davis would play his college ball in Lexington.

Now, it isn't exactly a surprise that the 6-foot-9 Davis decided to commit to Kentucky. In fact, the product of Chicago (Ill.) Perspectives has long been considered a heavy Kentucky lean if not a silent verbal.

A relative unknown just as recently as six months ago, the nation's eighth ranked -- and likely rising -- player has experienced a meteoric rise to prominence thanks to a six-inch growth spurt.

While he grew in size, he packaged several guard skills to develop into one of the most dominant inside players in the country. He runs the floor, scores on the interior, has great hands, can make jumpers and also dominates the game on the defensive end where he's a premier shot blocker.

Of course, it isn't as if Kentucky needed much more help in the class of 2011. Davis joins the nation's number one and five ranked prospects in small forward Mike Gilchrist from Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick and Marquis Teague of Indianapolis (Ind.) Pike. The trio look to have Kentucky well on their way to landing the top ranked recruiting class in the country for the third season in a row.
