The Creek is on the verge of opening the 2010-11 athletic season and women's soccer is foreshadowing a potentially successful year for the conference as five Pac-10 teams populated the pre-season national poll from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America [NSCAA].
Also in men's soccer, the Pac-10 placed two schools in the NSCAA pre-season poll.
Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the NCAA has released the APR database for head coaches for six sports - baseball, football, basketball [men's & women's] and outdoor track & field [men's & women's].
In football, receiver Markus Wheaton missed a day of practice with a bruised shoulder.
In men's hoop, 6-9 forward Eric Moreland - a transfer from UTEP - has been granted four years of eligibility.
In track and field, thrower Ryan Whiting, was named as the scholar athlete of the year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
In football, junior defensive lineman Datone Jones, broke his foot and will be out for at least a month.
In men's hoop, Washington has moved three Pac-10 games to Sunday - including both games against Wazzu - to accommodate television broadcasts.
In football, former UCLA defensive back Shaquille Richardson - accused of theft and kicked off the Bruins' team - has joined the Wildcats' program.
In football, offensive lineman Matt Summers-Gavin will miss most of the rest of August practice with a bone bruise on his knee.
In baseball, the Trojans fired head coach, Chad Kreuter and named volunteer assistant coach Frank Cruz as interim head coach.
In soccer, Wazzu was ranked 21st in the first pre-season national poll from the NSCAA.
In women's hoop, junior Nnemkadi Ogwumike and senior Kayla Pedersen were named to the preseason Wade watch list.
