Abdullah ready to impress AU coaches
Ameer Abdullah was two months ago, you do now.If you didn't know who Homewood (Ala.) High School three-star athlete
The 5-foot-9, 170-pound running back prospect shot onto the scene at the LSU Nike camp in Baton Rouge in April, earning running back MVP honors over other top prospects, including four-star LSU commit, running back Jeremy Hill.
Abdullah earned praise for his incredible elusiveness, being almost untouchable in drills, and his impressive change of direction skills.
Abdullah wasn't done showing out though, as his next stop was the Tuscaloosa Nike Camp, where he once again displayed incredible quickness and speed, earning him yet another running back MVP award.
This time, he beat out the likes of Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips High School four-star running back Demetrius Hart, among others, for the MVP honor.
Since his MVP awards, Abdullah has been training and going through high school workouts. He's also been in touch with Auburn defensive backs coach Tommy Thigpen, who is recruiting Abdullah to Auburn.
"I've just been training and getting ready at the high school", Abdullah said. "I've got some camps coming up and I'm just trying to get better."
Now, Abdullah has his sights set on an Auburn camp, where he plans to be this weekend.
"I feel like I have a lot to prove", said Abdullah. "I talked to coach Thigpen earlier this year in the spring, and I feel like I hadn't really proven myself to him that I can play football like I have to other coaches so far.
"This is going to be a huge milestone to prove to him that I can play football too."
Abdullah doesn't know if he's being recruited as a running back or an athlete by Auburn, but he's not too worried about that right now.
Abdullah rushed for over 1,000 yards as a junior at Homewood, including 14 touchdowns.
He has one goal this weekend he said, that's doing what it takes to earn a scholarship offer.
