Week 13 wrap: Two make history

The Sun Belt is set to send a pair of teams to bowl games after Troy and Middle Tennessee closed out 9-3 campaigns in impressive fashion over the weekend.

The Trojans and the Raiders join the 2003 North Texas team as the only Sun Belt teams to record a nine win season.

GoMiddle.com reviews all of Saturday's action with the Sun Belt wrap up.

BEST GAME

ARKANSAS STATE 30, NORTH TEXAS 26- Backup quarterback Ryan Aplin stepped up in a big way to lead Arkansas State to a much needed 30-26 win over the Mean Green. The Red Wolves picked up their first league win since beating FIU on October 24th. Aplin threw for 240 yards and ran for 122 and two touchdowns. North Texas scored late to make it close but was unable to recover on an onside kick attempt.

BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE

MIDDLE TENNESSEE QUARTERBACK DWIGHT DASHER- Dasher once again impressed with yet another dominating performance in MT's 38-19 victory over ULM. Though he threw a pair of early interceptions, Dasher finished with four touchdowns, two rushing and two passing. The junior had led the Blue Raiders to six straight victories and their first nine win season since 1992.

BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE

MT CORNERBACK ALEX SUBER- Suber played his last career regular season game on Saturday and made it count against the Warhawks. Suber finished with eight tackles, a sack, an interception and a pass breakup. The fifth year standout will go down as one of the top defensive backs in Blue Raider history.

TEAM THAT MOST IMPRESSED

TROY- The Trojans rallied from an early fourth quarter defict in a 48-31 win over Louisiana-Lafayette, clinching the outright conference championship. The Trojans finished with a sterling nine win season and were 8-0 in league play. Running back Shawn Southward ran for 152 yards and two touchdowns. After jumping out to a 14-0 lead, Troy entered the fourth quarter trailing 25-24, but the Trojans dominated the final period by outscoring the Cajuns 24-6.

TEAM THAT MOST DISAPPOINTED

WESTERN KENTUCKY- The Hilltoppers fought its tail off but was unable to get in the win column for the 11th straight time this year. WKU dropped a 29-23 heartbreaker to Florida Atlantic. Hilltoppers head coach David Elson was fired three weeks ago and the team has played hard for its outgoing coach but has still yet to record a victory in 2009. The Hilltoppers have one final chance next week when they host a struggling Arkansas State squad in Bowling Green.

FINAL SCOREBOARD

Arkansas State 30, North Texas 26
Florida Atlantic 29, Western Kentucky 23
Troy 48, Louisiana-Lafayette 31
Middle Tennessee 38, ULM 19
