Weekly awards: Masoli keys Oregon victory

Georgia Tech running back Jonathan Dwyer rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries in a 56-31 win over Vanderbilt.
BIG 12
Nebraska defensive tackle Jared Crick recorded 13 tackles, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup in a 20-10 win over Baylor.
USF quarterback B.J. Daniels was 13-of-26 for 232 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-19 upset of West Virginia. Daniels also rushed for 104 yards on 14 carries.
Minnesota quarterback Adam Weber was 19-of-31 for 416 yards and five touchdowns in a 42-34 win over Michigan State.
Houston quarterback Case Keenum was 44-of-54 for 559 yards and five touchdowns as the Cougars outlasted Southern Miss 50-43.
Temple true freshman running back Bernard Pierce rushed for 267 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in a 27-24 upset of Navy.
Utah running back Eddie Wide rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in a 22-10 victory over Wyoming.
Mississippi State running back Anthony Dixon rushed for 252 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries in a 31-24 victory at Kentucky.
Troy wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan caught 13 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-21 victory over Louisiana-Monroe.
Fresno State running back Ryan Mathews rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries in a 31-27 victory over Utah State.
Notre Dame wide receiver Golden Tate caught four passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in a 40-14 rout of Washington State. He also rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown on four carries.

Oregon's chances for a national title and quarterback Jeremiah Masoli's chances for postseason honors seemed to evaporate after the Ducks' ugly 19-8 loss to Boise State in the opener.

If Masoli and the Ducks didn't regain respect by winning six in a row after the Boise loss, they did so in their seventh win of the season - a 47-20 rout of USC. Masoli, who was ineffective against Boise State and missed a game against UCLA due to injury, reminded the nation how dangerous he can be in Chip Kelly's offense.

Masoli was 19-of-31 for 222 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 164 yards and a score to earn Rivals.com National Player of the Week honors. The victory puts the Ducks in control of their destiny for an outright Pac-10 title and a trip to the Rose Bowl.

Masoli guided an offense that rushed for 391 yards and four touchdowns.

"Masoli was ridiculously effective," USC coach Pete Carroll said. "We really had our chances to make things happen, but we couldn't tackle them in the backfield. The runs that he popped, whether scrambles or by design, just broke our back."

Who needs LeGarrette Blount? Oregon redshirt freshman LaMichael James has been fine in Blount's absence. James rushed for 183 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries in the USC blowout. James has topped 150 yards in each of the past three games and four times overall this season.

NATIONAL COORDINATOR OF THE WEEK: Texas defensive coordinator db]Will Muschamp[/db]

Under coordinator Will Muschamp, Texas further solidified itself as one of the top defenses in the nation by holding Oklahoma State to 277 yards in a 41-14 win. The Cowboys were without wide receiver Dez Bryant and running back Kendall Hunter, but it was a dominating effort nonetheless. Texas' defense scored on two interceptions for touchdowns. Texas leads the nation in rush defense and is third in total defense.
