Tide's Ingram rolls to top of power rankings
Rivals.com Power Rankings by Position: QB | RB | WR | TE | OL | DL | LB | DB | ST
• Coaches Power Rankings: Head Coach | Off. Coordinator | Def. Coordinator
Ingram carried the ball on all six plays of a 68-yard touchdown drive that clinched Alabama's 20-6 victory over South Carolina on Saturday. Ingram, a sophomore, finished with a career-high 246 yards, the highest single-game rushing total by an Alabama back in the history of Bryant-Denny Stadium.
That performance makes Ingram the new No. 1 running back in the Rivals.com College Football Power Rankings, which measure the nation's top performers at each position.
"The guy ran with tremendous passion and heart and did a wonderful job out there," Alabama coach Nick Saban said.
Ingram has rushed for 905 yards and eight touchdowns this season, including 558 yards on 74 carries in his past three games. He took over the top spot in the power rankings from West Virginia's Noel Devine, who rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns Saturday in a 24-7 victory over Marshall.
This week's edition of the power rankings also features a rare occurrence, as a player has moved to the top of his position after his team lost a game. Kansas' Dezmon Briscoe takes over as the No. 1 receiver after catching eight passes for 154 yards and a touchdown Saturday in a 34-30 loss to Colorado.
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, BYU tight end Dennis Pitta, Oklahoma State offensive tackle Russell Okung, Nebraska defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, South Carolina linebacker Eric Norwood, Tennessee strong safety Eric Berry, Clemson return man C.J. Spiller, Florida coach Urban Meyer, Houston offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen and Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong remained atop their respective positions.
The power rankings are released each Tuesday during the regular season. The ranking of a player and coach can fluctuate each week during the season depending on how he fared the previous week. The power rankings measure overall career performances as well as their most recent results.
