Notebook: Defense solid in big win

Auburn's offense wasn't much help for the defense Saturday night. Ball State scored 17 points off of Tiger miscues, but still didn't put up much a threat as Auburn improved to 4-0 on the season with a 54-30 win at home.

The Tigers' defense held Ball State to 260 yards of total offense, but two interceptions and a failed fake punt led to a pair of touchdowns and a field goal for the Cardinals. Thirteen of Ball State's 30 points came in the fourth quarter against mostly Auburn's second and third-teamers.

Otherwise, the defense played solid, defensive coordinator Ted Roof said.
