Ducks add four-star LB

Oregon linebacker coach Don Pellum has quietly amassed talent and depth at the linebacker position the last few years. The talent pool just got deeper. One of the top linebackers in the country announced his commitment today.

Duck Sports Authority spoke with Chris McCain the night before his televised appearance on ESPNU, and the nations' #12 ranked linebacker came right out and gave the news.

"I committed to the University of Oregon," McCain announced.

McCain recently switched schools from North Guilford to Central Carolina Sports Academy for his senior campaign. As a junior, he was credited with 97 tackles including 20 for loss. Earlier this summer, the Greensboro, North Carolina star visited Eugene with four of his teammates, and what he saw during that trip played a key role in his decision. DSA asked McCain why he chose the Ducks.

"The relationship between the players, and the relationship between the coaches and the players," answered McCain. "I like the academics and all that I found out from the players when I was there. It was cool how we chilled with the players, everything."

Along with fellow North Carolina stars James Scales, Keenan Allen, Gabe King and Maurice Harris (2011), McCain visited Eugene during the Oregon Coaches' Camp in June.

"The first day we were there on the field at the Oregon camp watching all the players. We saw all the Oregon coaches at the camp so we all threw on our cleats real quick so they would think we were working," McCain chuckled.
