Carswell looking to follow up big season
Macon (Ga.) wide receiver Ronald Carswell isn't the most highly-touted player to join Alabama's 2010 recruiting class but he's certainly one of the most committed. The 6-foot, 185-pound playmaker from Westside High School gave his commitment to the Crimson Tide in early April and shows no sign of wavering from his early commitment.
"I've gotten plenty of letters from lots of schools but Alabama has been the only one that really kept in touch with me from the beginning," Carswell said. "Once I committed, I pretty much let everyone else know it was a final decision and recruiting has pretty much stopped for me at this point. I'm planning on making at least one trip to Alabama this fall but I definitely won't visit anywhere else."
Carswell has already embraced his role as a future member of the Crimson Tide and has made an effort to reach out to some of his fellow Tide commits.
"I've met a bunch of the guys who are already committed and I keep in touch with Blake Sims a good bit. He's got a good team over there in Gainesville this season. Hopefully we can both represent for Alabama in the state playoffs this season."
Coming off a stellar 12-1 season in 2008, Carswell believes Westside can again make a deep run into the postseason with the help of some talented underclassmen and a handful of senior leaders.
"I play the Z receiver position on our team, which means I run a lot of short routes and get a lot of quick, three-step passes. Our receiving corps is very young right now which means most of the balls are coming to me at the moment. I'm ready to step up and accept the challenge of doing more as a receiver this year and really becoming that go-to guy for the team."
"Last year we lost a lot of great players from that senior class but we still have a lot of leadership coming back. I think if we work hard, we can go as far as we want to take it. We have some great underclassmen who are really stepping up and I think this could definitely be a team that makes a deep run."
Carswell and Westside begin their season August 27 against Central Macon High School.
