2012 Prospect High On Charlotte

The July Evaluation period has officially begun and 2012 point guard prospect Tyler Lewis has not wasted any time proving he is one of the best prospects in his class.

Instead of vacationing at the beach like other kids his age Lewis has been doing other things. "I'm just staying busy with a lot of basketball," Lewis said. "I've been going to a lot of elite camps."

That also included a recent trip to the Charlotte Elite Camp two weekends ago where he showed he was one of the top prospects at the event. Lewis enjoyed his time at Charlotte's Elite Camp and was impressed with what he seen. "It had a lot of tough competition," he said. "It was probably the best competition out of all of them that I've been to."

His strong performance in that event was no fluke as he showcased his skills again at the Prep All-Stars Challenge in Halton Arena the last two days. Lewis plays on the Carolina Flight which also features 2010 prospect and Charlotte target Reco McCarter. The Flight won all four of their games thanks in part to Lewis. He scored 16 points and a scored a critical basket with five seconds remaining to force double overtime in the first game against Team Phoenix Elite.

The two point victory over the Phoenix Elite was the only challenge the Flight faced during the two day event.

He showed off the great passing skills and leadership that he displayed at the Charlotte Elite Camp. Besides his superior passing skills and good jump shot Lewis displays an uncanny ability to remain calm under the most intense pressure. "I can't lose my composure because if I lose my composure as the point guard then everyone is going lose their composure and no one is going to stay calm," he said.

That calmness has earned him offers from Charlotte, Auburn, and Virginia Tech. So what does he like about the Niners?

"I like the coaching staff the most," he said. "They are always nice and they know what they are doing. They're always very complimentary about everything. They tell us the good and the bad, not just the good. Some schools just tell us the good. They tell us the truth and what's going to happen and everything."

Lewis said he ranks Charlotte first or second at this moment. Associate Head Coach Rob Moxley has been the primary recruiter for Lewis.

Lewis and the Carolina Flight are off to Myrtle Beach for the Big Shots Tournament.
