Brust still plans on visiting Iowa

While Ben Brust is not firm on when he will make his college choice, the talented guard from the Chicago area was hoping to complete a tour of the schools he was considering before the July evaluation period. Those plans were delayed a bit as his second visit to Iowa City was pushed back due to some family news.

Burst's brother and sister in law are expecting a child and the arrival date of the newest member of the family will take place a little earlier than expected. With the change in plans his visit to Iowa, which was set to take place early this week has been moved back.

"I called the coaches and they were very understanding of the situation," Brust said. "We are trying to work out a date for the visit this month. I am going to Virginia's Elite Camp on Monday and Tuesday and after I get back, we are going to go over there either late next week or the week after."

The most likely date for the Iowa visit at this point is June 22nd and 23rd.

The interest from Virginia isn't new for the 6-foot-2 guard who averaged 29 points a game in an injury shortened junior year. The new coaching staff at Virginia has been interested in him at their previous stop.

"Coach Bennett was recruiting me when he was at Washington State and they still have interest. They didn't get to see me play a lot this season, so they want to get that chance at their camp. I think I will have to play very well to get an offer," Brust said.

This past weekend, Brust made his way to the Butler University campus for an unofficial visit and felt that the trip was a good one.

"They (Butler) have probably been recruiting me the longest, so I know a lot about them. For me it was about getting a feel for how they live as a team," he said. "It went well. I spent some time with one of their 2010 commits and watched them play some open gym and stayed there overnight."

Brust holds multiple offers, but three schools (Iowa, Butler, and Northwestern) seem to be ahead of the pack at this time. His plan the rest of this month is to weigh his options and possibly make a decision before the start of the evaluation period in July.

"It is at the top of my mind. There is a chance I might commit before July, but I have to go checkout all the schools," Brust said. "After I see Iowa, Virginia, and probably Northwestern again, I will have a better idea."

As you might imagine, the Brust's are a close family and his siblings and parents haven't been shy about sharing their thoughts on where he should go to college in the fall of 2010.

"All of my family has opinions and they aren't shy about sharing them," he said with a laugh. "I have three siblings, a dad, and a mom and they all seem to have their favorites. They really just want me to go to a place where I think I can be successful and enjoy the next four years."
