Michigan latest to offer WR Coxson
Michigan is the newest school to offer Baltimore (Md.) City College High wide receiver Adrian Coxson and it's an offer the 6-foot-2, 194-pound prospect can't help but strongly consider.
"I know they're going to stick to the spread this year and I think they're going to be a really successful team," Coxson said. "The spread is something good because with more receivers on the field it will give me more of a chance and opportunity to play."
The Wolverines are now in the mix but another Big Ten school, Penn State, is considered to be a frontrunner for Coxson, who finished with 34 receptions for 821 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He is included in the Rivals 250 for 2010. His interest in Penn State is high.
"They offer me a very good education and Joe Paterno is a great man," Coxson said. "They're just a good program. He's a legend. He's a very good coach.
(His age) is a consideration but I'm quite sure he's taught the people to handle the stuff just as good as he does now."
Notre Dame is also one of Coxson's newest offers and he said the Irish are intriguing because of the great history that program has enjoyed. Virginia Tech and Syracuse are also now involved along with Florida, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Boston College, Maryland and Georgia.
Recruiting has gotten pretty hectic for Coxson, who has been timed at 4.45 seconds in the 40-yard dash, but he said the time has not come yet for him to narrow down his choices. When he and his parents are ready, they'll sit down and trim his list but at this point he's still taking in all his offers and doing his research.
"I hear a lot from all the schools that have offered me," he said. "It seems like all of them are interested. I'm just taking my time right now so whenever me and my parents think it's time to narrow it down then that's when we'll do so."
One reason Penn State could be considered on top is because Coxson has visited State College so he's much more familiar with the Nittany Lions than other programs. But that could soon change if Coxson decides to go around and tour some of the other colleges that have offered.
With so many offers, though, it's sometimes difficult to narrow down the list - even for spring games - and Coxson said he hasn't been to many of those just because some are on the same day and he might not want to play favorites.
"I'm trying to go to some but might not be able to make some because most are on the same day and each team wants me to come," he said.
