Top Georgia athlete sizes up State

Calhoun wide receiver DaRick Rogers is considered one of the top athletes in the state of Georgia.

Rogers has been clocked at 4.34 in the 40-yard dash at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds and has a 41-inch vertical. He has already received three offers and looks from several other programs including interest from Mississippi State of late.

"Recruiting has been going pretty good," Rogers said. "I've picked up a couple of offers in the last month or two. I'm getting a lot of attention. People have been telling me to expect it about this time but it's coming real fast. I'm just trying to take it all in stride."

Rogers plays wide receiver, safety, cornerback and returns kicks for the Yellow Jackets, who went 12-3 and lost 45-21 to Buford in the AA State Championship game season. He hauled in four passes for 71 yards during the championship game.

For the season, Rogers caught 66 passes for over 1,300 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Rogers has received offers from Alabama, Central Florida and West Virginia but is receiving interest from several other programs including Mississippi State.

Rogers is very close friends with Nash Nance, a quarterback from Calhoun that the Bulldogs offered this past Friday. It is through Nance that Rogers had his first opportunity to meet with MSU head coach Dan Mullen a couple of weeks ago when he stopped by the school for their basketball game.

"We mainly talked about the program and asked me what all I played," Rogers said of his meeting with Mullen. "He told me that he would have to look at the film and all of that kind of stuff."

Rogers could be next wideout the Bulldogs go after. He has watched Mullen's offense at Florida and thinks it is a style that will compliment his talents immensely.
