Nash reels in first SEC scholarship offer

Calhoun (Ga.) quarterback Nash Nance first met Dan Mullen at Florida's camp last summer.

The two instantly connected and that bond carried over into a scholarship offer this past Friday as Mullen wants to hopefully bring the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder to Starkville as a signal caller for the 2010 class for Mississippi State.

"We hit it off at the Florida camp," Nance said. "He just liked my quick release and my footwork and I have good height and good size for a quarterback. When we visited the Florida-LSU game I spoke with him and when he took the Mississippi State coaching job we talked to him and he came to one of our basketball games and I've just been talking to him since then a lot."

Nance was in a precarious situation when he found out about the Bulldogs offer on Friday.

"I was getting a haircut actually because I was going to the dance and my dad got the e-mail from Coach Mullen asking for our fax number so he could send me an offer," Nance said. "It was just really exciting and I got chills. My dad didn't think I was too excited but I told him because I was sitting in the chair getting my hair cut I couldn't just jump up because that woman would probably cut me."

Nance is very impressed with the resume with quarterbacks that Mullen has built over the years.
