Notebook: In-state wide receivers impressed with Rebels

Morton, Miss., wide receiver Terrance Taylor won't fool around with recruiting very long if Ole Miss comes calling.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Taylor caught 12 passes for 305 yards last season at run-oriented Morton, but five of those catches turned into touchdowns. Taylor is Ole Miss wide receiver Shay Hodge's cousin, and if the Rebels offer, Taylor said his cousin's team will be almost impossible to beat.

Taylor visited Ole Miss for the Rebels' Jan. 31 junior day and had a nice talk with wide receivers coach Ron Dickerson Jr.

"It went good," Taylor said. "I'm excited about going to Ole Miss. They're recruiting me right now. They told me how they go about recruiting. (Dickerson) said they like me."

Taylor, who has a 3.0 grade-point average, will camp at Ole Miss in June. He takes the ACT in April.

Dickerson also spent some time visiting with Mize, Miss., wide receiver Chavez Sims. The 6-foot-1, 208-pound Sims caught 65 passes for 1,123 yards and 19 touchdowns last season.

"It was great," Sims said. "I loved it. I liked how the people acted, how they talked and stuff like that. We talked about what they do. (Dickerson) said they help work each other. We talked about the recruiting process. It can go any kind of way."

Sims, who has a 3.5 core GPA, said he'll take the ACT on April 4.
