Rebels offer in-state defensive lineman

Ole Miss hasn't offered an abundance of prospects for the 2010 recruiting class, but one prospect who has already attracted attention and an offer is in-state prospect Bryon Bennett.

Bennett, a 6-foot-2, 250 pound defensive lineman from Madison Central (HS), Miss. is seriously considering Ole Miss, but may take his time to experience the recruiting process.

"I got the Ole Miss offer a couple of months ago," Bennett said. "It was really big to get the first Division I offer and it coming from Ole Miss with the season they've had really made it special."

Bennett said he's interested in LSU, Auburn, and Florida - and "definitely interested in Ole Miss" - and has been hearing from all of those schools via mail.

Bennett said he took an unofficial visit to Ole Miss for the Auburn game and came away impressed with the Rebels.

"I got to talk with coach (Tyrone) Nix, the defensive coordinator and another coach that I don't remember his name," Bennett said. "I could definitely see myself fitting in up there."

Bennett said that he had and estimated 10 sacks and around 50 tackles during his junior season at Madison Central.

Aside from the four schools he named, he said he'll wait to see which other schools recruit him. Surprisingly, he said he "doesn't have much interest" in the two other in-state Division I schools - Mississippi State and Southern Miss.

Although Bennett said it was too early to name a leader, it's clear the Rebels have made an early impression.

"They (Ole Miss) really had a big year, a huge year," Bennett said. "I watched them come together as a team. It would really be awesome if they win the Cotton Bowl."

A win in the Cotton Bowl might just push Bennett over the edge when it comes to making a commitment.

"I know they're not losing a lot off the team on the defensive line this year, but in a couple of years, they'll be needing some help," Bennett said. "I think I could go up and contribute. I think I could at least get in on the defensive line rotation. I might just commit early. But Ole Miss is definitely one of my top teams."

Bennett said he recently took the ACT for the first time and hasn't received the test results and estimates his GPA to be in the 2.6 range.
