Horn takes home all-state honors
When Ty Horn committed to the Frogs back in February, he was a highly thought of prospect. However, nothing could have prepared the Waco Midway star for the on field explosion that would materialize in the 2008 season. Horn mowed down the opposition accumulating 65 knockdowns and 48 panakes. PurpleMenace.Com caught up with Ty to get his thoughts on his all-state selection and a successful senior season.
"It feels good to play like we did" said Horn. "A lot of people counted us out after that first game(loss to Alvarado) but we overcame it and accomplished a lot as a team."
With his stellar play on the field, Horn and his offensive line mates helped pave the way for 2,000 yard back, John Hubert. Horn and his Midway teammates were ousted from the playoffs on a questionable call in overtime but nothing can take away from the job the Panthers did in 2008.
"It was nice to get the decision out of the way early" said Horn. "It allowed me to focus on football and not have any worries during my senior year. I think my focus and our focus as a team helped us play as well as we did."
After earning all-district honors his junior year, Horn was challenged by a member of the coaching staff.
"I made all-district as a junior and I had someone tell me that I was going to be one of those guys that does well my junior year and then doesn't fulfill my potential" said Horn. "I took that as a challenge and it motivated me to be the best I could be."
With his high school career now in the rearview mirror, Horn has started to turn his attention towards his future team and life as a college football player. What are some of his goals once he steps foot on campus?
"I want to do well with my grades, for my parents(laughing) and I want to make an impact on the field as soon as I get there" said Horn. "I want to be that guy throwing weights around in the weight room, impressing people. I want to make an impact right away."
With his work ethic and endless drive to succeed, it's no wonder that Ty Horn has become one of the elite offensive line prospects in the whole country. TCU coaches and fans alike can't wait for the big lineman to get to Ft. Worth and make his mark. We asked Ty if there was anything that he would like to pass on to the fans.
"I just want to say I'm glad I get a chance to play in a new era of Frog football" said Horn. "I can't wait to get there and I'm just ready to be a Horned Frog."
