UCLA wins convincingly
The Bruins opened their basketball season Wednesday Evening with a resounding 82-58 victory over an overmatched Prairie View A&M team. There is no doubt that this UCLA basketball team has the potential to be very good after they clean up some of the sloppy play they displayed.
UCLA had 24 turnovers on the night, six were by senior point guard Darren Collison and six more came from backup point guard Jerime Anderson. This area needs to be addressed before the Bruins start playing better teams.
UCLA's turnovers but they were able to overcome that stat with some good defense of their own. The Bruins caused the Panthers to turn the ball over 27 times.
One of Coach Ben Howland's big concerns going into the season was rebounding and he was pleased by his team's effort tonight as the Bruins out rebounded Prairie View by 20 boards, 42-22 and they hit the galls by committee just the way Howland is hoping his team attacks the boards.
"I was happy with the rebounding obviously to that by 20 on the boards," Howland said. "That was good."
