Freshman phenom Delmon Robinson
Delmon Robinson knew he could play right away at Mississippi State as a freshman.
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound receiver arrived on campus with a strong work ethic and immediately climbed the depth chart with his efforts in fall camp.
"I'm not a cocky person but I have a lot of confidence in myself," Robinson said. "I felt like I could play here as a freshman. It's all about what you do on the practice field. That determines if you are going to play in the game. I go out in practice and work hard and give it all I can give. I do my one-eleventh like Coach (Sylvester) Croom says. If everyone else falls in then we have a good team. It's great thing when everybody is working together."
Robinson's hard work paid off when the Bulldogs kicked off the 2008 season at Louisiana Tech and he found himself pressed into action. Robinson finished second on the team in receptions in Ruston grabbing five passes for 63 yards.
"It was great stepping out there on the field for the first time," Robinson said. "I remember seeing those lights and all those people and thinking 'oh man, I'm here'. After that was over it was just do whatever I can to help my team."
But Robinson did not leave Joe Aillet Stadium pleased due to their 22-14 loss to start the year.
