Heck of a start for Bynes

Sophomore Josh Bynes has played in 10 games but his first career start came last Saturday against Tennessee.

After racking up a game-high 11 tackles and earning Defensive Player of the Week honors from the Auburn staff, it's going to be tough keeping Bynes out of the starting lineup even when Tray Blackmon returns to full speed.

"He was physical," AU defensive coordinator Paul Rhoads said. "…He was taking on blocks like he would take on a sled in practice. He was ripping through blocks like we do a string-out drill in Tuesday's teamwork stuff. He was carrying over the drills to the field and his play reflected that."

Bynes is expected to start his second straight game at middle (Mike) linebacker for Auburn this Saturday at No. 19 Vanderbilt. He hopes to be even better after playing what he described as an anxious first half against the Vols.
