For the second straight week, Williams started and for the second straight week West Virginia rode the Moorefield senior to an outstanding defensive performance. Against Colorado in a 17-14 overtime defeat, the Mountaineers allowed just three points after the 10:10 mark of the first quarter. Saturday, WVU allowed Marshall 39 yards rushing (1.6 per carry), 119 yards passing and 158 yards of total offense. The Mountaineers provided three goal-line stands when the Thundering Herd was threatening to score a touchdown. It allowed 13 first downs and 0 touchdowns in 60 minutes of play. Williams finished with a game-high 11 tackles (five solo) and two tackles-for-loss. On one play, Coach Mark Snyder went to an unbalanced line. Williams fought through seven blockers on one side of the field to make a key stop.
