ASI Insider Report: Thrown into the fire

Florida State's defense had to rely heavily upon freshmen in their season opener due to suspensions of several veterans. The position hit the hardest was the interior of the defensive line. With two juniors and one senior forced to sit out, freshman Moses McCray started and fellow freshman Everett Dawkins came off the bench. Starting beside McCray was redshirt junior Kendrick Stewart, who liked what he saw from the rookies.

"Overall they did pretty well, they didn't score so I'm happy with all of the guys, I'm proud of them," Stewart said. "The main thing, and I went through it my freshman year is the speed of the game. They've got to use their hands better and stay low. We're on the sled 30 minutes per practice trying to stay low. I went through it so I have to try and encourage them. Don't get discouraged, you're going to mess up, I went through the downfall, but I have to help them along."
