Glenville CB has Spartan offer

As always Glenville High School has a plethora of Division 1 talent. No school in the Midwest gas produced more high-level football prospect over the last 10 years than the Tarblooders. Michigan State has yet to tap the Glenville pipeline, but they could this year as they have offered defensive back Mike Edwards.

The 5-foot-1l, 183-pound Edwards is rated a 3-star recruit and the #59 cornerback in the nation. He is also rated the #45 player in Ohio for the class of 2010. spoke with Edwards and asked him how his recruitment is going thus far?

"Everything is going great. I have around 15 offers right now," he said. "The University of Michigan just offered me last Thursday, that is my most recent offer."

The offer from the Wolverines gives Edwards offers from pretty much all of the heavyweight programs in the Big Ten. The Spartans, Badgers and Fighting Illini have also offered. We asked him about the offer from Michigan State.

"They just offered me recently as well. I have not got anything in writing form them yet, but my coach told me that they offered. I was up there this summer and worked out."

Edwards accompanied his Glenville team this summer when they stopped in for a day of camp at Michigan State back in June.

As would be expected of most Ohio kids, as well as Glenville products, Ohio State is actively involved in Edwards's recruitment.

"I speak with Ohio State often" he said. "I don't have an offer from them yet, but they are very interested. I have a lot of friends down there playing, like Ray Smalls. I also have friends at other Big Ten schools too.

With Ohio State close to being at their max as far as scholarship offers. It is possible that Edwards could leave the state in order to play college football at the highest level. We asked him if he had any preference as far as where he may go?

"I would like to play in the Big Ten. That would be my first choice, but I am willing to look around. I am hearing from some SEC and ACC school as well, so I would not mind checking them out."

Do you have at top 5 as far as schools at this point?

"I guess you could say my top five right now would be Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and I think Cincinnati would be in there as well. We have been playing Saturday games so I have not go t a chance to visit any school yet."

Like many Glenville products, Edwards indicated that he is in no hurry to make his choice and his list of favorites could certainly change over the next few months.

"I am going to take some visits after my senior season. I don't plan on making my choice until close to signing day.

With Glenville off to a 3-0 start, with an impressive win over St Ignatius, this could be the year the Tarblooders make a run to the Ohio State Championship. will continue to keep tabs on Edwards's recruitment. The Spartans have only recently offered and you can be sure if Coach Dantonio makes a strong push for a Glenville product the Spartan will get a serious look. Coach Ginn and his staff at Glenville have a lot of familiarity with Coach Dantonio, Coach Narduzzi, and Coach Treadwell at Michigan State.
