Notebook: Who will AU redshirt?
Other than naming a starting quarterback, one of the biggest questions still remaining for Auburn before they open the season is which freshmen will play and which will redshirt.
While AU officially divided up into scout teams earlier this week, AU head coach Tommy Tuberville said Friday there are still several freshmen still on the bubble.
At this time, cornerbacks Neiko Thorpe and D'Antoine Hood along with safety Christian Thompson are virtual locks to play as true freshmen on defense.
Thorpe has worked with both the first- and second-teams during preseason practice and appears to be AU's No. 3 corner.
"(Thorpe's) got height," said Tuberville. "He's got a lot of common sense about football. He's played that position, and he's played it well. He's a physical corner, and that's what you have to be in this type of secondary.
"As I've said, he's not very good fundamentally - he's got a lot to work to do there because it's all new to him - but he can make up for mistakes because of his athletic ability."
Tuberville said cornerback Harry Adams was on the bubble but with AU's lack of depth in the secondary and Adams' ability to help on special teams, he appears likely to play in the first two games.
