ASI Insider: Red zone success a huge priority

Moving the football between the 20's wasn't much of an issue for the Florida State offense last season. But moving it the last 20 yards was a near impossibility at times for Jimbo Fisher's squad in 2007. In fact, FSU's red zone percentage (scoring touchdowns when driving inside the 20-yard line) was dead last in the ACC at 43.75 percent.

As a result of FSU's ineptitude inside the 20, Gary Cismesia was a very busy man kicking the second most field goals in all of Division 1A football last season. Having impressive field goal statistics may look good in the record book but it isn't usually a positive sign for an offense.

Not surprisingly, a large portion of spring practice was devoted to improving the 'Noles' red zone offense. And on Tuesday, the first day the team was dressed in full pads, the first 11-on-11 drill between the offense and defense took place inside the red zone.
